It is the sea of the myth: it is the sea of Ulisse that ran away from the song ammaliante of the sirens of the islet of Licosa; it is the sea of Enea and his helmsman Palinuro, that ended in water victim of a spell of the god Sonno, and that it found a tragic end after having been shipwrecked on the Cilento's coast.
